THE FILL A BUCKET PROJECT

The Founder of Stand for Haiti, Jean Rebecca came into this world in the most miraculous and unusual way fathomable. After being pregnant for well over nine month’s and facing another possible miscarriage, Jean’s mother went to the bathroom in the middle of the night (Jean’s Bio). And at that moment Jean was born in a bucket.   LIFE sometimes comes from a bucket. So today we use the bucket, both symbolically and literally, as a sign of Life!

A BUCKET FILLED WITH HOPE

Fill a Bucket is a service project to ensure that communities in Haiti have household supplies usable for daily living.

Buckets are a necessary and reusable tool utilized daily by families in Haiti. Buckets are often used to collect and store water from streams, store food supplies, wash clothes and clean kitchen items. Farmers use buckets to spread and gather seeds, collect weeds and thorns, and feed farm animals. Construction workers use buckets to carry sand, stack rocks and mix clay. Merchants use buckets to sell items in the market place.

HOW CAN I HELP?

We are asking sponsors to purchase five-gallon plastic buckets and fill them with the required food items for $30 each. The food in a single bucket can feed a Haitian family for a week. We also are asking you to include a $10 cash contribution placed in an envelope and attached to the bucket’s lid to help with the cost of shipping the buckets to Haiti. Or you may send your donation through our website.

Each five-gallon bucket is to be new, unused, and preferably without any logo or other commercial imprint. After the food has been consumed, the bucket will remain as a handy item for use by the Haitian family.  The food contents of the bucket are to be generic store-brand items, including rice, cooking oil, dry black beans, all-purpose flour (not self-rising), white sugar, spaghetti noodles, peanut butter, and zip-lock plastic storage bags.  Uniform buckets and food contents minimize the problems with U.S. and Haitian customs.

For placement in cargo containers for immediate shipment to Haiti we have two delivery deadlines by March 31 and October 31st. For drop-off arrangements and more information contact us or message us on Facebook (StandforHaiti).

In the future each of the buckets will include a KanpeHaiti label indicating buckets are a gift to support, encourage and inspire; filled with hope and love from the USA. Once the buckets arrive in Haiti, they will be distributed by the KanpeHaiti staff and volunteers.

Bucket options may also include water, soccer balls with pump and needle. Please see below for additional fill a bucket options!
